Agnes Scott College area - Attic Addition

A master suite addition to compliment an old home is an amenity we are often asked to design. In older parts of town the lots are often small. Local zoning setbacks sometimes dictate that we add up rather than out.

The most difficult challenge is often finding the room to add a staircase. In the case of this addition we used the existing utility area and part of a closet at the back of the kitchen to accommodate the stairs. The existing laundry was moved upstairs which also gave us more room to expand the kitchen. We also removed a wall from the breakfast nook to incorporate into the kitchen.

From the street the house still retains the original look. This was achieved by extending the existing front roof line about six feet. Often the steeper roofs of the older homes lend themselves well to adding a second floor living area.
